Last Thursday we hosted our second Portfolio Lab, this time in association with Ladies, Wine & Design and Design at Sheaf St Cafeteria here in Leeds.
The evening was really positive - a room full of talented people, meeting, chatting, advising, and having few wines (or beers) in the process - and all in a very relaxed and non-judgmental setting.
Fionn Andrews, Freelance Consultant here at Craft said:
"It's not often that creatives have the opportunity to get impartial advice on their portfolio and their work. If you're looking for a new a job, it's not like you can ask your Creative Director for advice! Portfolio Labs offer people a chance to get a fresh perspective on their work, and meet a few new people in the process."
With attendees ranging from fresh graduates, through to seasoned freelance designers and senior creatives - there was a huge range of skills and specialisms on show. People were able to get what they wanted from the event, with everyone sitting down for a one-to-one chat with at least two of our expert judges.
Lisa Maltby commented,
"I was amazed by the quality of everyone’s work. Two things that kept coming up were a) put more of your personality into your work (show your passions and interests) and b) show more of the processes and development work behind a final design. One thing I wish I’d known sooner is that people care less about polished work and more about how you can help them - less about perfection and more about explanation and provoking conversation!"
We'll be running our next Portfolio Lab in September, so keep your eyes peeled for more info nearer the time!
If you can't wait until then, we have some resources available for those of you looking to design the perfect portfolio - with advice from leading creative directors.
Finally, Fionn will be at Ladies, Wine & Design Newcastle on Wednesday - if you're based up in the North East and want to come along!Email
