Events in August

It seems the creative people of Leeds and Yorkshire aren't taking a summer holiday this year, if this month's line up of events is anything to go by! Check out our top picks below, add them to your diary, and make the most of the sunny evenings by mixing with others in the industry.

Journey to Abstraction at Left Bank Leeds
Thursday 3rd August onwards
Join the Brighouse-based artist Rachel Hinds for a glass of wine at the opening of her exhibition, Journey to Abstraction. The exhibition showcases her experiments with various painting processes.

The Tetley Weekender at The Tetley
Friday 4th - Sunday 6th August
We all know The Tetley as being a hive of creative workshops, spaces and constantly changing exhibitions - this weekend highlights six South Asian and six UK artists collaborating on a range of new performance art pieces, across workshops and live concerts.

PIN DROP by Northern Craft at the Northern Monk
Friday 4th - Sunday 6th August
A craft fair with a difference - the top artists, crafters, and makers local to the North and exhibiting their wares at the Northern Monk Refectory for the whole weekend. 25 of these creatives have designed a beautiful pin badge; each of these have been created on a limited run, so get down early to grab yourself one of these gems. We're really excited about the work of John Bond and Dick Vincent, plus favourites The Lost Fox have just launched their awesome new Mountains print.

Lord Whitney: Goodnight Brooklyn at Lord Whitney Studio
Thursday August 10th
A Leeds based studio of storytellers and beautiful creative is showcasing this documentary that reminded them so much of themselves - with a cash bar and no doubt a great bunch of creatives this free event is no to be missed.

Screen Printing for Textiles at Leeds Print Workshop
Monday 14th - Wednesday 16th August
A fantastic three-day workshop exploring the process of printing onto fabric. There are lots of print workshops around Yorkshire, but we thought this one was a little different - three days is a good amount of time to immerse yourself in this craft, and the focus on fabric gives it a cool twist.

The Digital Round Table at Seventy7, Manchester
Thursday 24th August
To end the month, take a trip to Manchester and check out this digital event. If you’re an agency based in the North West, this is another chance to meet other agency professionals - discuss what’s new in the industry, find people looking to collaborate and share those creative discussions outside your normal circles.

South Bank Social at the Round Foundry
Saturday 26th August
This is an event organised by Leeds City Council to celebrate the ever up-and-coming creative centre of Leeds in Holbeck - which means permission has been granted to close a section of Water Lane and take over with festivites - including pop up food and drink vendors, plus stalls from Northern Craft. An all-day street party is a great event for families, but finishes at 11pm so you could also continue your night in Leeds!

If there’s any other events across design and digital that you think we should be including in this blog, let us know!
